Two Splitties, Two Directions

Two very different approaches here to the split-screen VW Type 2. The first represents a total departure from the original's utilitarian roots, eschewing the original slow-and-steady ethos and diminutive powerplant for a rather more sporting direction. The enormous Porsche crest on the nose is a bit of a giveaway, isn't it? And the huge Porsche brakes, and the variety of purposeful gauges on the dash... this is a splittie with a sting in the tail.

That was spotted in the Goodwood Revival car park, while this red one was in the show itself, in amongst the racers in the paddocks. It's an original German fire tender, with all period appointments lovingly restored and maintained. It's a genuinely rare sight these days to see a splittie sitting at standard ride height, and this one is a slice of pure 1960s utility.
So, which do you prefer...?
