As Deutsche Rennsport Meisterschaft (DRM) cars go, they don't get a lot more extreme or memorable than the Zakspeed Capri.
Zakspeed founder Erich Zakowski was contracted by Ford of Germany to build a DRM racer in 1977, using the new mkIII Capri as a base. Development was lengthy and complex, but the car was ready for the 1981 season featuring extraordinary bodywork and a turbocharged 1.5-litre engine that was effectively a Formula One unit; don't be fooled by the diminutive displacement - it had around 400bhp and could top 170mph. Klaus Ludwig drove the car to championship victory, and consequently into the history books. A true Ford icon.
